10.31.2002 ¤ LiLUsako scribbled at 00:22 ¤  How to make Onigiri Ingredients:
cooked rice (use short-grain rice)
filling - salty, pickled plum, grilled salmon, tuna fish mixed with mayonnaise sauce *Whatever you like, you can choose as filling
salt
dry seaweed sheet (Nori)
Method:
1. Cook rice according to the recipe of the back of the rice bag.
2. Prepare some water in a bowl. Wet your hands in the water and sprinkle a little of salt on the palms.
3. While the rice is warm, place a handful of rice on the palms.
4. Place your favourite filling in the centre of rice and form rice in a triangular shape by tossing the rice in the hands. Make sure the filling comes inside of the rice ball.
5. Cut dry seaweed sheet in strip. Wrap around the rice balls with the dry seaweed sheet strip.
Tips for Preparing
To make a triangular shape, hold one hand with the palm side up and hold the other hand in a mountain shape over the palm of the other hand.
You can also wrap the rice balls with dry seaweed sheet just before eating them, so that the seaweed sheet is nice and crispy!

ARGH.
i really dislike my design foundation studio teacher... he's so harsh.
so this past weekend i spent basically all my time drawing. i produced 3 different ink drawings... and spent at least 6 hours each on all of them. today we had to show them to the class... to critique them or whatever. So... there are 3 teachers in the morning class... the two other teachers loved my drawings... and my studio teacher?
"If you use these... i'll have to take it against you that you didnt follow the syllabus because you used HARD lines... instead of using shade to emphasize those lines..."
*grumbles*
then he said, "Oh before you leave, i expect you guys to improve your INK drawings..."
now how the hell do you fix ink drawings? -_-;;; *dies*
all that work i put into ... and i feel like i've been completely dissed.

as kim would say:
A grassroot wannabe environmentalist appeals to the blog:
The Channel Islands, off the coast of Santa Barbara, consists of I believe 7 islands, one of which is the Anacapa Island. The National Park Service, with whom we all entrust our preservations and national parks to, has begun a project called the Anacapa Island Restoration Project meaning to eradicate the black rat, an introduced species from 200 years ago, by poisoning it. The premise of this project says that the black rat is destroying Xantus murrelet, a rare seabird, on the island. However, and this is a strong accusation, the National Park Service is downright lying. The organization I talked to has investigated the project for the past year and a half WITH the documents issued by the NPS itself, and contains very damaging evidence. What threatens the bird is not the black rat but human disturbance. People kayaking in the caves and yodeling (sp?) disturbs the chicks, lights on commercial boats, man-made toxins, etc. and nothing is being done about human contact. What is disturbing is that the restoration project states that it is to protect the Xantus murrelet, yet it does nothing to address to problem of human disturbance. The document from the Anacapa Island Poisoning (“Restoration”) Project: The Final Environmental Impact Statement states (and I mean, this is what NPS has reported itself) “…the presence of the light boats may also have a detrimental impact on the seabirds such that the seabird population could not grow even with the rats removed.” “Of the estimated 505 potential nesting sites accessible to rats, only two sites have evidence of nesting murrelets…[and] showed evidence of mammalian predation.” “Actual documentation of the harm rats have delivered to seabirds, specifically Xantus’ Murrelets and Ashy Storm-petrels, is seriously lacking…” Also, it is not yet determined whether the black rats or the deer mice are the culprits for disturbing the nests. “…the removal of rats will not ensure a reduction of losses of murrelets to mice…”
Phase One of the project has already been implemented. Phase Two begins in November of this year.
The most pressing problem, besides having animal rights activists fight for the humane treatment of these rats (poisoning causes a slow death by internal bleeding, leading the death by asphyxiation and dehydration), is the poison being used, called brodifacoum. The NPS has assured the media that this project is safe because it has been implemented before. However, the actual document itself states that it will be a “precedent setting project” and that “if successful, other similar projects will follow…” This poison has many similar characteristics to DDT, such as not being water-soluble. DDT, when used and banned 30 years ago, is still found in every sample ever taken off the Anacapa Islands. Also, the biological half-life of this poison is long, meaning it will be decades or centuries before this poison could ever decay fully. The poison has entered the ocean waters, despite the fact that international law forbids it. This will enter the food chain and marine mammals are at risk of rodenticide exposure. “On Anacapa, islet wide treatment would yield numerous dying rats and mice displaying erratic behavior and likely would be a significant prey base…a number of rats and mice would die above ground and be available for diurnal scavengers. There would be extensive secondary poisoning of the birds of prey with the use of brodifacoum or bromadiolone.”
For the deer mice that live on the island, “it is clear that many mice will be killed and there is the distinct possibility that the entire population will be wiped out.” It also explicitly states that, “Presented as the most effective alternative, it also has the highest potential for negative environmental effects…” These deer mice are endemic to the island, meaning that they are found exclusively in this area. “Based on evidence in the report, the NPS slaughtered every wild Anacapa deer mouse on East Anacapa, with the exception of 175 alledgedly held captive.” And 175 is about half of what geneticists recommended.
Another attack of the premise of the project is that exotic v. native theory. All information found here is in an article from the NY Times. If you have taken a science class or know anything about the environment, you would instantly assume that an introduced species would irreparably damage the current ecosystem. However, it is scientifically proven that introduced species do not necessarily produce negative results, and it is an “unscientific approach” to “portray introduced species as inherently bad.” Many experts “question the scientific wisdom of trying to roll back ecosystems.” “…many exotic species have become so integrated into ecosystems that animals, some endangered, rely on them for food and shelter.”
So, why on earth would the NPS even consider this? There are several different theories. One is that they want to “Disney-fy” the island, taking out unpleasing species. This is supported by the fact that they have reconfigured their protection of the Channel Islands so that hotels may be opened and operate on the island. Another is that the director (I think, I’m not sure) has a phobia of rodents. Those are the only theories I can remember.
The Fund for Animals sued NPS for violating the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, but NPS, because they are a federal organization, “applied for a permit to kill birds protected by federal law and international treaty.” The NPS that we trust actually has the legal means to implement actions that normal contractors and other citizens would be arrested and sued for, such as this blatant extermination of several species on the protected preserve.
The entire project is costing taxpayers $2 million. The organization that they have hired to do this poisoning is actually excited because if they finish with this “project,” then they will hope to sell their services. In fact, they plan to repeat this experiment on San Miguel and the Farallon Islands.
We are poisoning our oceans, it is like a small-scale repeat of DDT, and we all know how devastating that pesticide impacted the environment. What was used to kill mosquitos traveled up the food-chain to the Brown Pelican and the eagle and even humans. I’m seriously concerned because I’m afraid of what they will do to the Channel Islands and the Farallon Islands (remember joc? TMMC!) This could become a national problem and I don’t have TIME to join MORE protests! It would be so nice if someone would like to send letters alerting our representatives. In America, the only way the environment gets saved is by grassroots organizations, building from the bottom up. Thanks if you actually got this far ^____^

waii~~ too many quizzes ^^;;
... i am semi pissed.
soooo, this morning i wake up on my nice lovely saturday on which i am supposed to be able to SLEEP, and go take the EVIL SAT's. ho hum, they actually aren't all that bad, the math section seems fairly easy compared to the weekly torture of math prep... and it wasn't too hard finding the classroom i was in and i actually did know one other person in the classroom...
so what pissed me off? well, i was minorly irritated at the inability of the teacher to read the stupid instructions right. but, after a while, you just kind of shrug and get used to those things. no, what really annoyed me was the fact that people were blantantly cheating.
so i spend up to three hours a week busting my ass off to get SAT math, and people sit there and cheat! just sit there and work on other sections of the test and... grrr...
...i hope that they get what they want.
::runs off to eat something::

uuurrr durr...
after spending about half hour working on cosplay, watching the movie queen of the damned... i find myself sitting infront of the computer. again.

So yap.
now i'm kinda awake... and i dont wanna go to bed. but. OMG. the movie Queen of the Damned SUCKED. it sucked ROTTOn BLOOD. *dies* like half the plot was like false... i'm so upset... and I havent even finished Queen of the Damned! I will tho. I really will! I'm reading a little almost every night... i mean.. i might not a supah fast reader, but i'm getting there. yeah. i'm busy busy busy. try to make time to do stuff. =D
but like... d00d. there's this hella scary girl down the hall. she likes this guy... and like... i hang out w/ this guy a lot. (cuz he went to csm... he's in architecture... in our hall... etc... so of course i'd hang out w/ him...). So like last week, my room mate was hanging out w/ him... and this girl... goes psycho. she's all "Girly girly" nice on yah... and then next she's ready to kill you.
i swear. i'm on her hit list... erm. or not until she finds out all the days i've been w/ the guy.. alone ROTFL. (we went to downtown LA, and work on projects... he's the only one in the hall i can really relate to).
so if you begin to notice that i don't post any more... its probably because that psycho girl down a few rooms decided to come after me with an ax. =X
